Sat19/10/19New Forest Walk, led by Janette4-5 miles

Hello walkers, Janette is kindly leading the walk on Saturday 19th, please see the details below. Jeremy will be driving so he can take 6 people in the Jeremymobile!

Saturday's walk will be in the New Forest starting from Abbots Well car park about 1/4 mile past the Foresters Arms in Frogham.

It will be 4 - 5 miles long along decent tracks for half the walk and certainly wet and probably muddy for the other half as its been so wet.

It's the fallow deer rut time so I'm hoping we'll hear the bucks roaring and keeping watch over their does. It is essential that for part of the walk, dogs are kept under close control please.

In conjunction with the Parish Council we are having a formal ‘opening’ of the Circular Walk on Saturday 2nd November. This will involve our lovely Martin Wright GPS Guru extraordinaire cutting the ribbon. We will then have some cake and fizz and do the walk afterwards. Full details to follow nearer the time but save that date!

And finally….. You are warmly invited to join Wiltshire Council on the 7th November, 6.30pm at Downton Memorial Hall for a Southern Wiltshire Area Board event on the topic of rights of way.
Part 1 of this event happened earlier this year in Whiteparish, but by popular demand, Part 2 has been organised offering you more time to raise those queries you may not have been able to raise back in May. Wiltshire Council’s Head of Rights of Way & Countryside will lead the event.

That’s all folks and happy walking

At the Parish Council Amenities meeting of the 26/9/2016, it was agreed unanimously to delegate the promotion of use and any footpath maintenance issues to the Downton Society Footpath Group. The Footpath Group will report back any issues, raise working parties and work in partnership with the Parish Council Amenities committee. The Footpath Group has walked the Parish paths and beyond for over 10 years; members have worked together with the Parish Council to obtain grants for kissing gates, and to help Wiltshire Council install them over the Southern Wiltshire area.

If you would like to raise any issues about the state of stiles or any parish path issues, please contact - Susan Barnhurst-Davies 01725 512963 susankirsten@btinternet.com
